European Multi-Chamber uPVC vs Typical American Vinyl Windows
Both products are called vinyl. They are not the same window. Typical American residential vinyl is often a sliding or double-hung sash in a relatively simple frame. European uPVC tilt-and-turn windows — the kind VERMAK fabricates from GEALAN profiles — use a deeper multi-chamber frame, steel reinforcement, and a compression seal that locks the sash into the frame when you close it.
Seal type
A slider moves on a track. That track is a path for air and water if the weatherstripping wears. A tilt-and-turn sash closes like a door: hardware pulls it tight against gaskets on multiple sides. That is why these windows are used through Central European winters and why they stay quieter next to a busy Twin Cities street.
Frame and glass
GEALAN S 8000 and LINEAR profiles are 74 mm systems with multiple insulation chambers and a large chamber for steel. Pair that with Cardinal double- or triple-pane glass and you are building a unit for the Northern climate zone, not a builder-grade replacement slider. uPVC does not rot, rust, or need painting the way wood does, and it does not conduct cold the way aluminum does.
Operation
One handle: closed, tilt (secure ventilation from the top), or turn (sash swings inward for full opening and for cleaning the exterior from inside). No exterior ladder for upper floors. No sash that sticks in January.
What this is not
This is not a claim that every American vinyl window fails. Plenty of well-made double-hungs meet code. It is a claim that a multi-chamber European system with compression hardware is a different specification — and the difference shows up first on a Minnesota January night, in condensation on the glass and in the sound of the road.
